One Response to “How Good Does My Cardio Have To Be To Fight In Mma?”

  1. Cardio is super duper important. You make mistakes when you are tired. Most of these fights end when the looser makes a mistake and the winner capitalizes on it.
Most grappling contests (like wrestling or Judo) have a single match that may be 4 to 5 minutes. These guys fight 3 to 5 rounds back to back that are the same length. In those later rounds I bet many of these guys are blind with exhaustion.
Grappling is an anaerobic activity. It can push you to your maximum heart rate, and keep you there. And when you are maxed out you do silly things, later once your heart rate return to normal you think, “why did I make those mistakes?” The main way you minimize these effects is though cardio conditioning.
